

The Museum of Science and Industry had lots of cool stuff, but my interest was the Pompeii exhibit. There were artifacts borrowed from other museums and lots of commentary and videos to put things in context. I remember joyfully learning about Pompeii in 6th grade; this brought back all that excitement.










The one upsetting part was about sexuality. I had always thought of sexuality during the Roman empire as “anything goes.” I thought it was joyful and pleasurable for everyone, without the hang-ups associated with sex in the modern era. Well, not so much for women who were sex workers. They lived in horrible conditions, were treated badly and I think were enslaved. I am dismayed that humans have treated other humans so poorly throughout history.
