
I loved the fancy buildings in the Loop that we saw on the architectural boat tour (discussed in an earlier post). But I also was struck by the beauty of every day buildings. The row houses that seem typical in many neighborhoods have interesting architectural highlights, like ornamentation by the roofs that made them feel majestic. I also noted that the fronts of buildings tended to be narrow but then the buildings were very deep. This is true in Amsterdam, where house taxes were based at one time on the width of the front of the house; not sure why this is so in ChiTown.
