I have enjoyed all the temples and mosques I visited throughout my trip, but the Temple of the Tooth in Kandy was particularly special. It houses a tooth of Buddha, so people make pilgrimages to it.

We went in the evening so it would be cool. The tradition in Sri Lanka is to wear white to the temples, so a sea of people dressed in white contrasted beautifully with the dark wood and nighttime sky. It is a very large space and was very crowded. Musicians played horns reminiscent to me of bagpipes and drums that beckoned and welcomed me. We made an offering of Lotus flowers. It was a very powerful experience.
