Caroline found a tour to visit an elephant sanctuary. We believe these beautiful animals were treated well, but anyone going on an elephant tour should do independent research to be sure.
When I looked into the eye of 72 yo elephant names Abuela, I felt like our souls connected. I was feeling vulnerable anyway: missing Henry, feeling carsick and admiring young newlyweds. Then Abuela looked at me and gently let me into her life. Earth shaking.

I don’t remember the names of the other elephants, but we saw them as we were taken around a “lazy river,” we posed with them on dry land and we splashed in the water with them. So amazing. One of the best days of my life, for sure.

We also had a delicious green chicken and veg curry cooked over an open fire, served on a banana leaf with bamboo cutlery that we watched the tour guide whittle. Sooo yummy.

We saw a weaving demonstration and Caroline tried her hand at it!

Then we took a short hike to s waterfall. Felt like Ithaca at that point!! Such a great day.
