Thailand

The one scheduling error I made back in December is I accidentally booked a flight from Taipei to Bangkok with a 10 hour overnight layover in Kuala Lumpor, Malaysia. Turning lemons into lemonade, I treated myself to a beautiful hotel and a very lovely steak and fruit dinner.

I arrived in Bangkok the next day and immediately got a flight to Chiang Mai in the northwest of Thailand. It is a testament to the organization and appropriate staffing of the Bangkok airport that I made this tight connection.

In Chiang Mai I met up with my good friend Caroline Fleishauer, whom I have known since she and Sam became friends in 6th grade! Caroline is doing a Fulbright in Thailand – my great luck that the timing was when I needed to be in Asia!

Our first night together was St. Patrick’s Day. While we are both Irish Americans (actually, Caroline has her Irish citizenship; mine is pending), we opted for a quiet meal in a restaurant that also had great antiques for sale.

    1. Yes! After saying for 30 years that this was on my β€œto do” list, I finally got the application mailed – with help from my sis and Charlie. My sis and one brother got theirs in the 80s/90s!
