Jiufen (sounds like “Jo fun” to my ear)

Did you ever watch “Spirited Away”? I had not until I was in Singapore with Amy and Adam. Sammie said they watched it all the time in Belle Sherman after school, though. It’s an animated Japanese movie about a girl who saves her family.

The movie includes a bath house. The bath house’s appearance was inspired by a tea house in Jiufen, just a bit north of Taipei. Enjoy these pics of our visit to Jiufen last week! Especially fun:

1. More time with cousins Ethan, Annie and their baby Yucy,

2. Learning how to serve formal tea,

3. Seeing restaurants and shops built into the mountain,

4. Great views,

5. Fun decor and cute little statues.

  1. Can’t go to Taiwan without seeing Spirited Away first – Jiufen was Brigid’s first choice on our tour! ! So many fun corners, fun walks and great tea. I love the signs you found – can’t wait to see the video where you are smiling 😉

  2. Enjoying every one of your marvelous posts on your marvelous journey. Do pick up a good-luck cat for Sammie or any striving friend – if the Taiwanese ones are the same as the Japanese ones, they only bring good luck when gifted!
