Closing thoughts on Singapore

Singapore was great. Very clean and safe. Lots of rules and CCTV, which was very different for me.

I find myself with a lot of questions about the history of its politics. There is lots of gratitude towards the English for the time of colonization, but I want to understand more about why it got its independence 75 years ago. Also, as such a small country (it’s an island-city-country) I wonder if there would be benefits to being part of Malaysia (it once was). So I need to do some research for deeper understanding.

I never got to the sections of town that were primarily Indian or Malay. I also never went on the subway, which is said to be excellent. Next time…

Of all the excellent meals, my favorite was the hot pot. I loved my Singapore Sling, a fruity gin cocktail.

I had hot pot the first time in northern CA last year with my nephew and his wife (her family makes it all the time) and it was love at first bite!
