Paris: Art Museums Part 4 – Musée d’Orsay

Musée d’Orsay was a train depot, but now houses art created from mid-1800s forward.
Lady Liberty is everywhere!

I first saw a print of The Angelus in my Aunt Ellie’s dining room. Dropping everything for evening prayer.
The Thinker is also everywhere!
While the Orsay has impressionists, the collection is pretty small compared to collections in the US because the museum declined a bunch!
Not a muse: there is cellulite.
This was from Louvre: muses having lunch with dudes.
This is in Orsay. The artist is challenging the pic to the left: real women who are nude; clothed men; and not enough food for lunch.
Caricatures
If the person is in profile the artist does not like him.
Degas, well known for painting dancers, was making the commentary with this work that the Mamam’s in the back right are essentially pimping their daughters through ballet. A friend at home told me Degas used sex workers as his models. So many layers to this onion!

The Musée d’Orsay was one of Henry and my favorite spots in Paris, as the pictures below demonstrate. I spent some quiet time outside and distributed some of his ashes.

Note the photo over my bed, taken in August 1988 by friend Rob Hillman. He was honeymooning in Paris, too!

      No, but I was prepared with his death certificate and certificate of cremation. I am glad he didn’t wind up in a garbage can in the airport!
