Food in Taiwan

I have long known that Chinese food in the US is not what is served in China and Taiwan. This trip proved it. I loved it all so much. My favorites are dumplings, closely followed by noodles.

Fun fact: bubble tea started in Taiwan.

Another fun fact. Around 1974, my SIL Ya-Huei’s dad introduced the concept of popcorn chicken to Taiwan. This is similar to a chicken nugget, but the chicken inside isn’t processed. Mr. Chen came up with a salt/pepper/seasoning combination to put on said popcorn chicken and it is franchised by vendors all over Taiwan. My brother described Mr. Chen as the “Colonel Sanders of Taiwan.”

Pictures of various food and drink I consumed or saw in markets here. One particularly wonderful, multi-course meal I did not document bc it was a family meal and it would have been awkward. But let me tell you – this is not your local Chinese carryout!!! We did have pizza one day – John was craving western food. It disagreed with my stomach! I think my stomach really likes rice.
