I arrived in Delhi on February 13. This is the only leg of my trip that I don’t know anyone, so I am splurging on hotel and tours for a few days.
I love that I landed at Indira Ghandi airport. When I was in the second grade (roughly) I learned that the US had never had a woman president. Yet, I was in kindergarten when Shirley Chisolm ran for president. And, Indira Ghandi and Golda Meir were the leaders of their countries during the 60s and 70s. I didn’t understand any of the politics, but the news constantly showed these women leaders. Together with Bella Abzug, these women showed me I could lead in government if I wanted to.
#Representationmatters.
PS. My guide today had very negative thoughts about Indira Ghandi; you may share them. I want to reiterate that I don’t really know what her politics were; my focus is on representation.
