I mentioned earlier the Quinn side of my family; my maternal grandmother’s branch. My godmother is my cousin Aunt Ellie Novak; her mom was Nana’s older sister Aunt Mary Leonard. Aunt Ellie and her husband Uncle Paul are very dear to me, and I am lucky they were available for dinner before I took off for JFK. Aunt Ellie has keen insight into the psychology of what makes people tick, which was so interesting to hear as we caught up on family members. She and Uncle Paul would give you the shirt off their backs; so kind and generous.
I left them to go for my late-night flight. Note to future travelers: long-term parking at Kennedy is outrageous ($25/day) and searching on-line was not coming up with results that were much better. Searching just before I left for the airport, though, Paul found a $7/day lot. I am not sure I would take the risk of waiting till the last minute in the future, but it worked out this time. Parking in NYC! Dang!
As I was waiting for my flight (yes, I was at the gate about 2.5 hours early – no need to take any risks of missing the plane!) I was texting folks to whom I hadn’t said “good bye,” pacing a little to stay limber before the long flight, but mostly I just kept saying to myself, “I can’t believe I am doing this!” Holy moly! I just jumped right out of my comfort zone and onto the plane. Asia, here I come!
